"When you are strong enough," Ursula explains, is when her cubs can leave the den. Not content with waiting, Stella thinks about a way to prove that she's ready. Meanwhile, Nanook is content to snuggle in Mom's warm fur as he listens thoughtfully. An illuminated panel from The Last of the Polar Bears pg 22. See the full two-page spread here: [link]

Poor Nanook. Hehe. They're all so cute.

One question though!

I notice that Stella and her mother both have brown marks above their noses but Nanook's character does not. Is that a trait in mainly female polar bears? I know, I come up with the most random questions at times. XD

Can't wait to see more pages of the story.

I wonder if they get to meet their daddy anytime soon. Then again, it may be a bambi moment. :'(

By the way, I love how you draw your own lines in the comic by hand and not relying on digital art or rulers while you do it. It shows character and goes perfectly with the story!

Thank you for making such a wonderful comic and sharing it with your fans. :hug:

Thanks for all the comments, and good question--I'm happy you noticed. :) No, the black nose is not a trait specific to female polar bears. The interesting thing about polar bears is that they actually have black skin underneath all that fur (to assist them in staying warm, since black absorbs heat). Their fur is thinnest around the nose, so on some polar bears, their muzzles are darker where the skin shows through. Stella takes after her mom while Nanook has a fuzzier nose. :)

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. :)

And yeah that makes sense about the nose thing. I've heard that polar bears have black skin underneath their white fur to keep warm, like you mentioned.

I haven't studied polar bears too much and didn't know if it was just a female thing or something else. Hehe. So I thought I would ask. ^^;

Thank you again. Can't wait to see more updates on this! :la:

Thanks. :)

By the way, who is that character in your icon? Is he from Angelic Layer? Or is it Chobits? Or Card Captor Sakura? It's something CLAMP, right? :)
