I'd previously thought these were completely sold out, but it turns out that I still have about 20 copies left. Hi everyone! I'm currently pondering the possibility of doing another book about drawing anthropomorphic characters. So I'm wondering, what do you want to see covered? I'm especially interested in hearing from readers of Draw Furries and Draw More Furries, but feel free to chime in even if you haven't read the books. So, what do you want to learn next? What aspects of drawing are you having trouble with? Is there a particular animal or animal species or mythical creature you want me to cover? If I make another book, I want to fill it with the tutorials that will be helpful to you. Not the topics I think I should cover, but the stuff you want to know about. So please, leave a comment with your ideas and tutorial requests. :3

I'm pleased to announce the winners for the 2012 'My Arctic Animal' comic competition! I was amazed and moved by the creativity, passion and variety of the entries I received. They were incredibly varied, from dramatic, to funny, to heart-wrenching, utilizing every art medium from crayons to digital paint. In fact, there were so many fun and creative entries to choose from, it was difficult to narrow it down to just one for each age group (8 and under, 9 to 13, 14 to 18) plus one overall winner! A New Beginning!

I am proud to announce the big relaunch of The Last of the Polar Bears. As you may recall, The Last of the Polar Bears is my online graphic novel about a mother polar bear and her two cubs and their struggle to survive in the warming Arctic of the near future.

It's been a long journey getting to this point. I began work on The Last of the Polar Bears in 2009, researching polar bears and the arctic extensively, plotting the story in detail, designing the characters, and storyboarding the complete book. Now I am hard at work illustrating the pages.

Every Monday, I post a new page up on the website. It's currently up to page 15. Some of the early pages will look familiar to returning readers, but look carefully and you'll notice that they've been retouched and enhanced. Bear with me, it's all new territory once we get up to page 36. ;)

Last call for Arctic animal comic entries for the competition I'm judging. Deadline is this Friday, August 31!

Open to contestants internationally within three age categories – eight and under, nine to thirteen, fourteen to eighteen. Entrants are invited to submit a one-page comic inspired by Arctic wildlife! Prizes include a polar bear adoption kit, the out-of-print Last of the Polar Bears Pre-Dawn book, an original illustration by me, and a character cameo in a Last of the Polar Bears side story.

Create a Comic, Help Polar Bears

"My Arctic Animal" Competition: Create a Comic for Conservation – Help the Polar Bears Through Creativity

I've teamed up with Wildlife Warriors, an organization for wildlife conservation and awareness, to host a comic competition for kids and teens in support of polar bears.

Open to contestants internationally within three age categories – eight and under, nine to thirteen, fourteen to eighteen, entrants are invited to submit a one-page comic inspired by Arctic wildlife! The winner will receive a character cameo in a Last of the Polar Bears side-story, an original illustration, The Last of the Polar Bears Pre-Dawn book, and a Polar Bears International bear adoption kit!

If you know any teachers, or kids and teens that are interested in art, comics, or wildlife, let them know about the competition. What I'm up to right now: I'm currently working on storyboarding the comic in its entirety. Expect a big reboot and more frequent updates for Polar Bears early next year.

"Will you do a Peach Fuzz volume 4?": I would love more than anything to do a Peach Fuzz volume 4. The planned story for it is so adorable and fun. Unfortunately, it's not currently possible because Tokyopop shares half the copyright. I can't do a V.4 without their permission. (Even though TP USA is closed, they still have a German branch). Hopefully I'll eventually be able to get back the rights to continue the series (and reprint the first three books). In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy and support my new series, The Last of the Polar Bears. ^_^

NYCC + Limited edition book!

Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know about a couple of exciting things happening next month.

First, I'll be attending New York Comic Con next month (October 8 - 10, 2010 in New York City). You'll be able to find me in the artist alley with the usual array of books, stickers, bookmarks and other goodies. If you're attending NYCC, be sure to stop by the table and say hello!

The other exciting thing is that I've been working with a small press printer to produce a limited edition book collecting the first half of Chapter 1 of The Last of the Polar Bears, and it will be ready in October. It's always been my intention for The Last of the Polar Bears to be viewed in print, so I'm really thrilled to be making it a reality.

I'll be bringing the book with me to NYCC, where I'll be alternating my time between my artist table, and showing Last of the Polar Bears to publishers. Hopefully something good will happen from reaching out to publishers, but if not, I intend to continue self-publishing Polar Bears online and in print on my own.

To do that though, I'm going to need your help. If you're interested in seeing Polar Bears in print, be sure to pick up the new book. If this first book is a success (i.e. recouping my printing costs), future collected editions will follow. By supporting the printed edition, you'll also be helping me continue making pages for the online web comic version.

For those of you who can't attend NYCC, the book is available for sale through my website.

The Last of the Polar Bears - web comic announcement 7/15/10

Hi everyone, I wanted to let all of you know that I've started posting pages of The Last of the Polar Bears online as a web comic. I plan to post a new double-page spread every week, on Mondays, as well as write about the process of making comics as time allows. You can read The Last of the Polar Bears comic here: [link]

Why the web comic format? I started working on The Last of the Polar Bears a year ago, researching, plotting the story from beginning to end, designing the characters, and working on the sequential art. After story boarding the first chapter, I determined the complete story would be around 500 pages--meaning it could take years before the book would be ready for publication. I strongly believe in The Last of the Polar Bears and its message, so rather than keeping the project hidden for the next several years while I continue to work on it, I've decided to make the pages available to readers as they are created. I'd love to hear your feedback. :)

Jared and I will be speaking at the 5th Annual Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival on Saturday, May 15, 2010 9:00am-5:00pm. Click here to go to their website for more details. Megacon aftermath + stolen car u_u

Back from Megacon. Good and bad news.

Good news - I had fun at the convention. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the table. It was great seeing all of you. For those of you who picked up prints, books, etc, I hope you enjoy them!

Bad news - The night before the convention, someone stole our car - a red 99 Honda Civic HX tag 354IWT (photos of it: [link]. If you live around the Orlando FL area, please keep an eye out for it and call the police if you see it. Most likely places it would show up are in a parking lot or abandoned on the side of a road. Needless to say, that put a damper on my enjoyment of the convention, and it couldn't have come at a worse time as I am currently in-between jobs.

As I understand it, if the car doesn't show up within the next 30 days (and from what I've heard, the chances of it being found, especially in one piece, are pretty slim), insurance pays for the "blue book" value of the car minus a thousand dollar deductible. This will not be enough money to replace the car.

EDIT: Thanks for all the well wishes on this journal entry. My stolen car was never found, so it's now the property (at least, the keys and title to the car) of the insurance company. C'est la vie. :(

Jared :iconquasimanga: and I have an artist table at Megacon [link] in Orlando, Florida this weekend (March 12th-14th). We'll be located at White 1 in the Artist Alley all three days. I'll have copies of Peach Fuzz volumes 1-3, Digital Manga Workshop, Draw Furries, and Mangaka America available for sale that we will be happy to sign for you. We have a bunch of new prints this year, and other goodies like stickers. Peach Fuzz is a comedy about a prissy ferret named Peach and her young owner. Volumes 1 -3 are available in bookstores! If they don't have Peach Fuzz in stock at your bookstore, please ask them to special order it. 2) Spread the word! Encourage your family and friends to also support the series.

Happy New Year! Let's start off the year by introducing... The Last of the Polar Bears, what will hopefully become my next graphic novel. I've spent the last year thinking about it and the last couple months writing and developing the groundwork for it. I just finished plotting out the story in detail from beginning to end, so now I'm ready to move forward with the creation of the comic itself! Stay tuned for lots more!
